Home for the Summer

Well here we are, home for the summer. We rushed home so that we could get Mike's house ready to sell. We would like it gone by the end of summer. There is lots of work to be done and I hope we are up to the task again. We already went through this once... Glad to be home, nestled at the in-laws, Mel & Jackie on their 5 acres in Allenton, Michigan. That is our base when we are in town. We will be doing two bike rides and a Habitat Build before heading south again, so stay tuned.

Meeting Friends along the Trace

Here is a closer look at Tommy

The Tennessee River on the Trace

Guess what! While I was waiting to pick up Tony at the Tennessee River Park I met Karen Hattamer, a homeowner from Marquette. She had a Habitat House built for her in Guinn, Michigan in the UP after her husband died in Iraq. The trace is a beautiful site. We have had such a good time. The hiking is great, seeing history at its best. And ask Tony, he will tell you that the biking is wonderful. From my experience, the Trace is fairly flat and rolling, but I've only done 50 miles.

A day on the Trace with Mary

This Parkway is so great to ride, the hills are small and rolling. It was Sunday and there was more traffic then usual, but it was a great ride.

Tony's Biking Adventure on the Natchez Trace Parkway

The Biking is done on the Parkway There is no biking on the old trace. There are hiking and biking trails along the way, and lots of camping sites.

Natchez Mississippi a Historic & Quaint Town

The Mighty Mississippi goes from the Gulf all the way to Wisconsin.

Biking the Tammany Trace North of Lake Ponchartrain at Fontanbleau State Park

This was a good bike trail, easy and flat. We had just an hour before we needed to be out of the camp.

The Big Easy! It is still great visiting New Orleans

The French Quarter seemed like it was coming back to life. The city itself seems still in shock. There is a lot of repair going on, that is a good sign. We visited the 9th Ward and St. Barnard Parish, Wow there is so much undone about that part of town. Lots of rebuilding but not nearly enough.
